Choosing a Pair of Mid-Calf Boots

Pick a pair of neutral-colored boots for casual wear.

If this is your very first pair of mid-calf boots, you’re better off picking a pair in a neutral color, like brown, black, white, or gray. These colors mesh well with any other color in your wardrobe. This makes them easy to incorporate into your outfits.

  * Combine a pair of camel-colored boots with a simple white T-shirt and pale denim jeans for a classic look!

* Black boots complement everything, but look especially great with your favorite cable-knit sweater and matching black leggings.

Choose boots with patterns or in loud colors for a fun, quirky aesthetic.

If you already own a pair of mid-calf boots or simply want something more expressive, look for a boots in vibrant colors or patterns. Jewel tones and animal prints are both popular alternative choices. Pick a pair of boots that best suits your personality and tastes!

Wear bright-colored boots with a dress that uses the same color as an accent to make that color stand out and add pizzazz to your outfit.

Alternatively, pair bright boots with a neutral or monochromatic top and denim jeans, combined with a jacket, scarf, or statement jewelry in the same color as your boots.
Pair leopard-print boots with your cutest little black dress for date night

Select boots that fit comfortably around your calves for the best look.

Boots that are too loose will cause your calves to look bigger as well. Boots that are too small may be too uncomfortable to wear. You can tell how a boot fits based on how it feels at your ankles. The ideal pair of boots will hug your calves and ankles, but not so tightly that they’re painful.

If you can’t tell how comfortably the boots fit, use your finger to test the fit by wedging it between your calf and the mouth of the boot. If your finger fits into that space well, the boots should be comfortable to wear.

Look for mid-calf boots with zippers if others don’t fit well. Mid-calf boots can work for every leg shape.

Zippers offer more adjustability, so they will make it easier for your legs to fit into mid-calf boots. Alternatively, look for boots with extra elasticity at the ankles.

Choose a pair of boots with heels to enhance your legs.

Heels will give you a svelte look, no matter your height. You don’t have to go too high, however. Try to pick a heel length you are comfortable wearing. The standard and most flattering height is 3 inches (7.6 cm), but you can go higher or lower based on your own preferences. Rock a pair of stilettos to look sexy and sophisticated, or keep it modest (and comfortable!) with kitten heels.

For added comfort, place a pair of gel soles inside your boots. This will create a cushion that will make it easier for you to walk in your heels.
